NEW BOOK: SHADOW REALMS DEMONOLOGY HANDBOOK

Shadow Realms Demonology Handbook
By Carl L. Johnson & Lana J. Brock

Two years in the making, this book was. Carl and I began the book under the assumption I would assist and edit. However, he had asked if I would like to write an article or two for the book. He felt the book could use some balance and other theories. My new angle on life was to "think outside the box". I wrote a couple of chapters and then after editing a few of Carl's articles I began to think of other possibilities which could contribute to make the book more balanced. Before long I had almost as many chapters written as Carl. He continued to encourage me to write more.

In those two years of acquiring new chapters he and I would spend hours upon hours speaking extensively on different possibilities of the spiritual realm and how history and mythology played a part in how we view demonology today. We began to realize that demonology needed an injection of new theory or something less traditional in order to take demonology to a new level so that we could grow and learn more about it.

I rather enjoyed our long conversations. It seemed that I was not only getting to know my co-author and boyfriend more but I was really learning more about how to entice him to hash out his thoughts and to explore those possibilities and put them into words. It was an incredible experience to work with him. It was really like playing a volley ball game. He would begin with a thought, explain it at length and then I would take that and respond to it with additional thoughts. These thoughts turned into chapters.

We have many chapters in the book about the origins of demonology and how each culture and their history contributed to what we know of today. In order for us to delve into new theory we had to present old ideas and how they came to be. We realized that television and movies had given society a view of how to look at demonology. It is easy to see why paranormal research has not grown after seeing how television has warped our thinking into believing this is all there is to know about spirits and demons. What people do not realize is that television, even paranormal documentaries, is edited to say what they want it to say. Some ghost hunting shows have faked their so-called evidence. The truth is we cannot trust any of them.

The only truth one can establish is what they find for themselves in their own studies while collecting information. Our book is also about how to collect that data and how to protect ourselves from the unknown while doing that research.

Carl and I attempt to define demonic infestation, oppression and possession and what that really means outside of those misconstrued definitions television has forced upon the public. There is much that has been learned from television shows and so it is a difficult road to where an individual can see beyond all of that. One needs to not only know the history of what they are interested in but for things which require more study, such as the paranormal, they need to learn to think outside of the box they were taught to stick to. Everything we know, history, tradition and religion has been used to get society where it is today. The only way to get paranormal research to be taken seriously as a credible science and to learn more about it is to step outside that box we were raised in and search beyond already established data and use it to further our quest of answering our questions about the demonic spiritual realm.

To be a demonologist is to simply study demonology. But to be one who wants to advance our research in the field we must not be afraid to ponder all possibilities and put those on the table. If I have put forth ideas not supported by television, religion or even history and mythology then I feel I have accomplished a lot.
